La revista GOYA dedica este mes de junio (núm. 359, junio 2017) un número especial a la historia del coleccionismo en España. En él, presentamos nuestra reciente investigación sobre la figura de Cels Gomis (1912-2000), sus años de residencia en Japón (1939-1946) y su interés por el arte popular japonés, especialmente por el coleccionismo de muñecas kokeshi. Asimismo, el estudio presenta a Gomis y su colección en el contexto de la difusión del movimiento mingei en Barcelona a partir del año 1950, alrededor de artistas como Eudald Serra y Joan Miró.
Cels Gomis (1912-2000) is still completely unknown in the field of artistic, cultural and historical relations between Spain and Japan. Our research, published by GOYA. Revista de arte journal (nº 359, June 2017), aims to unveil his biography and one his passions: Japanese folk art collecting. Gomis interests in kokeshi dolls, folk toys, ceramics and Ōtsu-e paintings, among others, went beyond a mere temporary hobby and favored the diffusion of the mingei movement in Catalonia and knowledge of Japanese folk art in among artists such as Eudald Serra and Joan Miró.
